Caring for creation is an essential part of faith for those who follow in the footsteps of Jesus. This Lent, you are invited to take the environmental challenge with us. Through prayer, devotions, fasting, studies and more, we seek to spiritually engage in being good stewards of Earth. The following events and opportunities are ways for you, and for people of all ages, to engage in these and other spiritual disciplines throughout the season of Lent:
Bible 101: Follow the narrative lectionary through the last days of Jesus on Earth according to the gospel of John.
Earth Care: Explore and discuss: home & energy, food & water, transportation, recycling and biodiversity.
A Lenten Discipline: Earth Care Each week will have a corresponding theme relating to the environment (transport, water, energy, waste, and improving biodiversity). Thursdays, 7:30 PM
Praying the Names of Jesus: Expand your vocabulary in reference to the second person of the Trinity, as we pray the names of Jesus using key scripture passages that reveal the name and engage in study and devotional readings that helps us understand the name. Reflect on how the name connects to God's promises in Scripture. This study will enrich your understanding while it leads you into a deeper intimacy with Jesus, building your faith be revealing the promises contained in his names. Books are available on kiosk or for purchase here. Wednesdays, 10 AM & Thursdays, 7:30 PM
Practicing God's Presence: Take individual time for God with a quiet time of prayer and meditation. Thursdays, 7:30 PM
Share a meal with your sisters and brothers in Christ before attending one of the three Thursday evening Lenten Studies. Thursdays, 6:30 PM
JPMT encourages us to expand our images of God; for example, to think beyond masculine references to God. This helps to draw us closer to infinite goodness of God and create a welcoming community. In addition, the Justice & Peace Ministry Team challenges us to focus on our lifestyles and behaviors that impact the environment. Throughout Lent, participate in games and other learning opportunities to build climate awareness. Learn more.
Weekly devotions focus on the environment, expanding our images of God and the saving work of Jesus Christ. During Holy Week, devotions will be daily. Contact us to receive the devotions through email.
