We believe that we have a responsibility to make the community a better place. We and sponsor and partner with many local organizations to help make the local community a better place.

Harvest Offering

Each fall, we collect a special offering designated a "Harvest Offering." It is a chance for you to give back during the season of Thanksgiving. This is a special gift that goes beyond your normal giving. This year, the money collected through the Harvest Offering will be split evenly between the South Lakes Food Pantry and Centreville Labor Resource Center. Donate to the Harvest Offering online (select "Harvest Offering" in the Give-to drop-down menu), or by check with "Harvest Offering" in the memo line.

Supporting the Community during COVID-19

Donations for Cornerstones
Cornerstones assists local residents facing financial hardship. UCP is collecting items to donate to them. Needed items:

  • new or gently used, clean adult or children coats
  • new hats
  • gloves
  • mittens
  • scarves
  • Diapers (size 5 & 6)
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Cleaning Supplies
Drop off donations from 9 AM-1 PM on Wednesdays in Room 107 (the former Sanctuary). The outside door entrance to drop off donations is towards the back of the parking lot. It will be unlocked and marked with a sign to direct you. If you are not comfortable dropping off your donations in person, arrangements can be made. Contact Annerieke Owen or Debbie Aschenbach.

Community Development

Helping the Unhoused
Our Missions Team and members work close with the Hypothermia Prevention Shelter and Embry Rucker Community Shelter to provide assistance to the unhoused in our community. There are various volunteer activities throughout the year to be involved with the shelter located in Reston.

Providing Financial Resources
We work closely with Herndon-Reston FISH in supporting efforts to provide local residents with access to resources to help them be financially stable.

Supporting our Local Thrift Shop
We recruit volunteers to serve at The Closet to sort, label and price gently used toys and household items.

School Partnership

Lake Anne Elementary School
We are committed to maintaining a strong relationship with the students and faculty at Lake Anne Elementary School. Homework Club is an after-school tutoring program in which volunteers assist students with their homework. Keeping the safety our community is a priority, so this season we are supporting Lake Anne through school supply donations and our Youth are serving as mentors.

Works Sunday

UCP participates in Works Sunday, an annual interfaith service event featuring over 10 service opportunities throughout August and September.

Ready to serve?

To find out more about any of these service opportunities, contact  one of our two Missions Team chairs, Annerieke Owen, or Ray Whitney.
