What is Works Sunday?
Works Sunday is more than just a day. It is an annual interfaith local service (multi-day) event that takes place throughout August and September. It encompasses a range of service and volunteer opportunities in the Reston-Herndon area.
How long has Works Sunday been happening?
This year, 2019, marks the 24th Works Sunday.
A variety of local faith-based organizations and non-profits. Anyone can volunteer!
When is Works Sunday?
Works Sunday events take place throughout August and September, but the majority of events and all donations are collected on August 18.
What kind of service opportunities does it include?
It includes a Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event, meal making for Embry Rucker Shelter, lunches at local fellowship houses, service at Youth for Tomorrow and a Blood Drive.
Are there donations being collected?
Yes! This year donations are being collected for:
Domestic Violence Shelter ($10-$15 gift Target or Walmart gift cards)
Embry Rucker Shelter (list of needed items)
Youth for Tomorrow (list of needed items)
Laurel Learning Center (list of needed items)
South Lakes High School Food Pantry (list of needed items)
Ronald McDonald House (soda can tabs)
Dogwood Elementary (list of needed items)
All donations will be collected on Sunday August 18, 2-5 PM, at United Christian Parish.

Rise Against Hunger
Join in the movement to end hunger by helping to pack 10,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger. @Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 10:30-11:30 AM
Lunch and Concert at Hunters Woods Fellowship House
Enjoy a performance of uplifting music, good food and good company with senior residents. 11:30 AM-1:30 PM
Lunch at Lake Anne Fellowship House
Bring lunch and laughter to residents. 12-2 PM
Drop off your donations. @United Christian Parish, 2-5 PM
Lunch at Harbor House
Prepare and serve lunch and then converse with senior residents. 12-2 PM

Bag Lunch Assembly: 100 bag lunches for residents of Embry Rucker Community Shelter were made
Sewing Bee: Blankets for the babies of mothers supported by Youth For Tomorrow were made
