Whether you are new to the Reston area, seeking a new church home, or new to Church, you may have some questions...
Who are the Pastors?
Rev. Elisabeth Willams (Pastor Beth) and Rev. Dr. Marcus L. Leathers (Pastor Marcus). You can learn more about them here.
What denomination is UCP?
This is definitely the most popular question. United Christian Parish is an ecumenical (or multi-denominational) church united in ministry: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Presbyterian (USA), United Church of Christ and United Methodist. The practices and beliefs of all four of these denominations are carried out in worship and in the day-to-day ministries.
Will I feel comfortable if I am not familiar with any of these denominations?
Yes! Guests and members are from all faith backgrounds. The unique structure of UCP is intriguing, and you may have questions when first entering, but you do not need to be familiar with one of the four denominations to feel comfortable.
Why four denominations?
We are four denominations intentionally united in ministry to witness to the things that we have in common in Christ. We believe this allows more autonomy in exploring beliefs and faith practices. We understand that this type of ministry is new to most people and welcome any questions you have.
When is worship?
Acting in a spirit of love and an ethic of protecting the health of all is the true way to serve the divine and to love our neighbor. At this time, worship is exclusively online at 10 AM.
How do I worship online?
Experience online worship on Sunday mornings at 10 AM. The service will be streamed on our Facebook Page and is available on our YouTube account and on our website here. An online bulletin is posted on our website each Saturday before worship: ucpreston.org/online-bulletin
How will I be welcomed?
A heartfelt greeting is part of what makes a church a church. Our greeters are there to help you and answer any question you may have. If you are worshiping with us on Facebook, drop a comment to let us know you are worshiping with us, or you can fill out a Connect Card that is posted on our website each Sunday: ucpreston.org/online-worship. The Connect Card is also shared during the chat on Facebook and on YouTube.
Is there a fellowship time?
Yes! You are invited to Virtual Fellowship each Sunday after worship on Zoom. We just have one rule: come as you are! If you are new, this is a great opportunity to chat with our pastors and meet others. Send us an email and we will send you the Zoom link!
Do you offer Holy Communion?
Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month. Communion cups are available for you to pick up outside door 1 the Thursday-Saturday prior to the first Sunday of the month. You may also use your own bread and juice. Don't have bread or juice? Improvise. It doesn't matter what you use. What matters is remembering the body and blood of Jesus given for you.
Do you welcome children to your services?
Absolutely. Children are welcome to worship. There is a special children's message during worship every Sunday. Children's bulletins are also posted on our website: ucpreston.org/online-worship.
