Commissioner William Clyburn was appointed by President William J. Clinton to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (formerly the Interstate Commerce Commission), where he served from 1998-2001. He also served as senior counsel to U.S. Senator Zell Miller and as the Commerce Counsel to U.S. Senator Charles S. Robb of Virginia.

Currently, Mr. Clyburn, Jr. is the Principal of Clyburn Consulting, LLC, which works in shaping public policy around surface transportation in our country.

He has been recognized for his community work with inner-city youth volunteering as a volunteering as a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) mentor to inner-city youth.
